Honorary Fellow Members

Dr. R. B. Ekanayake

Dr. Ekanayake has a BSc from the University of Ceylon and a MA in Operational Research from the ‎University of Lancaster, United Kingdom. He was recently awarded a PhD (Honoris Causa) for his pioneering work on ‎Information Technology by the University of Kelaniya.‎ Dr. Ekanayake is a founder member and also the first President of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka.‎

 

Dr. A.S. Induruwa

Dr. Abhaya Samarath Induruwa was born in Dalugama and educated at Nalanda Vidyalaya, Colombo. He graduated from the University of Sri Lanka in 1975 and joined its faculty.

Ms. Sunethra Nayeni Fernando

Ms. Sunethra Nayeni Fernando was born at Richmond Hill, Galle in and had her Primary education at Richmond and Southland’s Colleges in Galle and her secondary education at Methodist College, Colombo. She entered the University of Ceylon Colombo in 1965 and obtained a BSc.

Mr. A Attanayake

Mr A Attanayake has a BSc from the University of Ceylon that he obtained in 1967 and later started his career as a Programmer at the Department of Census and Statistics. Following his tenure at the department, he became Manager IT at Ceylon Tobacco Company in the early 80s and was then appointed Head of IT at AIR LANKA from 1982 to 1998. Mr. Attanayake also served as an IT Consultant for the Y2k Project at CINTEC in 1998 and the Assistant General Manager IT at Union Assurance Ltd. from 1998 to 2005.

Mr. N R Ganepola

Educated at Ananda College, Mr. N R Ganepola obtained his BSc. (Hon) Degree in 1974, his MSc in Computer Science from the University of Colombo and Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the Post Graduate Institute of Management , University of Jayawardenapura. He joined the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation in February 1977 as a Management Trainee in Data Processing and served in various capacities in the Data Processing Function before being appointed the Manager Information Technology in 1990. Mr. Ganepola as the Head of Information Technology also contributed to the technology transfer programmes and growth while serving three organisations including the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited and Lanka Indian Oil Company PLC.

Mr. Chrisantha Silva

Mr. Chrisantha Silva is veteran in the field of Information Technology with more than 34 years experience in the areas of software development, IT project management, IT consultancy and IT management. He is currently employed at SriLankan Airlines. Mr. Silva has published papers in IT magazines and presented papers at several National and International IT conferences. A BSc. Graduate from the University of Sri Lanka, he also has Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Open University of Sri Lanka. Mr. Silva obtained his professional qualifications in IT from the British Computer Society and he is a Chartered Member (CITP) of the British Computer Society.

Mr. J R Ranawaka

Mr. J R Ranawaka is the Chairman / Managing Director of Jagath Robotics Pvt Ltd since 1985. He graduated from University Of Colombo with a BSc in 1979 and was the Founder President of the Association of Software Industry (SLASI) and Secretary of “SEARCC 95” organising committee.

DR. PRASANNA LOKUGE

Dr. Prasanna Lokuge has over twenty-five years ICT experience in high growth public and private sector organisations both in Sri Lanka and abroad. He has BSc. from the University of Ruhuna, a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Technology, MSc. in Computer Science from the Colombo University and a PhD. from Monash University, Australia specialising in Artificial Intelligent Agent Architectures. He joined CSSL in 1995 and since then has been actively involved and contributed immensely to the development of the society. He also served as member of council and in 2000 was appointed the Assistant Treasurer, in 2001-2002 the Treasurer, in 2007 the Vice President in 2008 the President of the society. He is a chartered member of the BCS and a member of the Australian Computer Society (ACS). He is a professional Project Manager (PMP) and was a Board Director of the Project Management Institute, USA, Sri Lankan Chapter. At present he is the Director (Information Systems) at Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

Prof. Gihan V. Dias

Prof. Gihan Dias is an engineer by profession, graduated from the University of Moratuwa in 1985 and was awarded a doctorate in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Davis in 1992.

In addition to being a Professor in Computer Science and Engineering and Director at the International Relations at the University of Moratuwa, he currently serves as the Domain Registrar of the LK Domain Registry and as an advisor to TechCERT.

While a graduate student in the US, he led the initiative to form SLNet, a community of Sri Lankans on the net, and LAcNet, a non-profit organisation. He was instrumental in setting up the first e-mail systems in Sri Lanka in 1990, and ran the academic Internet in Sri Lanka, LEARN, for over 10 years.

He provided leadership to the local-language computing initiative in Sri Lanka, which led to Sinhala and Tamil being standardised and available on most computing platforms, enabling our citizens to use IT systems and the Internet in their own language. He set up Sri Lanka’s first and leading Computer Emergency Readiness Team – TechCERT – in 2005.

He has been active in several areas of computing, including computer networking, language technologies, e-learning, security, Internet identity and personal cloud. He is currently working on enabling advanced computing services, including translation, in our national languages of Sinhala and Tamil and in using technology to enhance learning.

He has assisted many public and private organisations to build, secure, and make best use of their computer systems. He was inducted to the Internet Hall of Fame in 2013, was a Trustee of the Internet Society from 2014-2017 and received the SEARCC ICT Professional of the year award in 2017.

Mr. Susil Peiris

Mr. Susil Peiris is a BSc Graduate from the University of Colombo, specializing in Mathematics, has obtained his Masters of Business Administration Degree from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) in 2001 and received his MSc in Computer Science from the University of Colombo (UCSC) in 2005.

An ERP Application Specialist and System Integration Project Consultant by profession, having more than 33 year’s ICT experience, in public and private sector organizations in Sri Lanka and abroad. Presently, the Director of Metropolitan Computers Limited giving leadership to ICT Related public sector tenders SBU. In 1987, he was the Project Manager for Implementing Utility Billing System for Lanka Electricity Company (LECO), in which Utility Billing was revolutionized in Sri Lanka.

He joined Computer Society of Sri Lanka in 1997, where he actively engaged in CSSL executive council activities. He was appointed the Vice President in 2001, where he represented CSSL in the SEARCC Executive Council Meeting, in Auckland, New Zealand.

He is a Chartered Member of British Computer Society, Certified BPO Team Leader and Certified BPO Quality Analyst.

He pioneered a project to implement a Software Application, to harness the power of ICT to improve the teaching and quality of life, of the aurally and the visually impaired people in Sri Lanka, which has won World Summit Award in 2009, as the best ‘e-Content Application’ in the category : ‘e-Inclusion and participation’, competing with nominations from 157 countries.

Mr. Y. R. Karunaratne

Mr Y.R. Karunaratne is an old boy of Ananda College. In 1967 he obtained his BSc Honours degree from the University of Ceylon and served in the university staff for 2 years in the Mathematics and Physics Departments.

Dr. Bandu Ranasinghe

Dr. Bandusena Ranasinghe from Dondra, was educated at St Aloysius College, Galle. In 1974 he obtained his BSc from the University of Peradeniya and continued his studies in Data Processing to successfully complete all four parts of IDPM, UK in 1975.

 

Mr. Ruvan Ratnatunga

Mr. Ruvan Ratnatunga is a founder member of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka and is an Associate Member of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (U.K.). At present, he is the Managing Director of the DMS GROUP of companies that has been involved in the information technology industry for over 30 years in Sri Lanka and overseas. He is member of the Rotary Club of Cinnamon Gardens and was its President in 94/95.

Mr. J N L C Fernando

Mr. J N L C Fernando has 45+ years experience in IT in Solutions notably in the banking, ERP, airlines, public sector, PERT industries where his expertise included business planning, hardware, brand management and general management. Having retired from IBM in October 2008, Mr Fernando was rehired and appointed as Senior Learning Facilitator in the IBM Growth Markets till August 2012. He graduated in Engineering from the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya and he also has a Masters Degree in Computer Applications and Management from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok under a Belgian Government Scholarship

Mr. K.P.D Sugathdasa

Mr. Sugathadasa was the Managing Director at IT Advisors (Private) Limited, a CSSL Council Member from 1986 to 1999 and the CSSL Treasurer from 1988 to 1997. He has a BSc.(Hons) in Computer Science from Queen Mary College and a Masters in Advanced Study from the University of Cambridge. He is a Past President ISACA, Sri Lanka Chapter, Platinum Member of ISACA and a Member of CIMA (UK).

Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe

Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe is the Chairman at Informatics Group. He has previously held positions as Chairman Bank of Ceylon, Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka and Lanka Hospitals. He holds a Master’s degree from the University of Aston, Birmingham, UK and a Doctorate in Business Administration from the Manchester Metropolitan University, UK.

Mr. Vimal Indrasoma

Mr. Vimal Indrasoma retired from the post of DGM – IT of Sampath Bank PLC in 2011, after 22+ years. He has been engaged in the ICT industry for over 30 years, and holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Colombo. He is a member of the British Computer Society and the Computer Society of Sri Lanka, where he has served on the council for several terms. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Sampath IT Solutions Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sampath Bank PLC.

Mr. Niranjan De Silva

Mr. Niranjan De Silva is the Director and CEO of Metropolitan Computers and an old boy of Trinity College Kandy. He is an engineer by profession and holds a BSC (Hons) Degree in Engineering from UK and MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura. He has previously served as Past Presidents of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Computer Vendors Association, the IT Commercial body.

M. M. Luxaman Perera

Mr. Luxaman Perera joined CSSL in 1993. A BSc. graduate from the University of Colombo he also has a MSc. in Computer Science and an MBA from the University of Colombo. With over thirty years experience in the ICT industry, Mr. Perera was the Conference Manager for NITC in 2010, Project Manager for National Schools Software Competition in 2011 and the Chaperon for Sri Lanka Students team for SEARCC International Software Competition in 2010 and 2011. In 2013, the Society initiated the CSSL Awards where he was appointed Project Head. He was also the first Project Manager in the SFIA Certification programmed the Society initiated in 2012. At present he is the Head of Information Technology at Bank of Ceylon.nology at Bank of Ceylon.

Mr. Mahesh Perera

Mr. Mahesh Perera, is the Director, Information Systems and Management at Parliament of Sri Lanka.

He joined the Sri Lanka Parliament in 2004 to form the newly established department of Information Systems and Management. He provides leadership for the continued development of an innovative, robust, and secure information technology environment in Parliament.

The primary responsibilities for his office encompass a wide variety of strategic technology issues enabling Parliament do better in the context of Good Governance and Sustainable Development. He is an active member of world e-Parliament forum, a global chapter of Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Before joining Parliament, he had served Sri Lanka Lanka Army holding various operations and technology leadership roles with increasing responsibilities; He enrolled Sri Lanka Army Signal Regiment as a direct enlisted Officer in the rank of Captain. Having served for almost 10 years, he resigned from Sri Lanka Army in 2004.

He counts almost 25 years of experience in diverse fields of ICT with both public and private sector organizations in Sri Lanka in addition to his illustrious social activities.

This distinguished personality severed the council of Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) for six years out of which he was the President of the Society in 2012 and 2013. During his presidency, CSSL expanded to new growth opportunities. He was the President of the South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation (SERACC) in 2014.

He earned a Masters Degree in Computer Engineering (MSc) with honours, from the State University of former USSR and Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Human Resource Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in e-Government from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka.
